Est\u00e1 a 45 kil\u00f3metros de Sevilla y cuenta con 5.781 habitantes, seg\u00fan datos del INE de 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Tiene su origen entre 1920 y 1930 por la colonizaci\u00f3n de la marisma para el cultivo de arroz, principal y casi \u00fanica fuente de riqueza del municipio.<\/p>\n<p>El municipio presenta la t\u00edpica morfolog\u00eda de los poblados de colonizaci\u00f3n, con predominio de calles de trazado regular. La procedencia valenciana de gran parte de sus habitantes confiere un car\u00e1cter singular a sus gentes y costumbres.<\/p>\n<p>La colonizaci\u00f3n llevada a cabo en las marismas del Guadalquivir entre los a\u00f1os 20 y 30 para el cultivo del arroz, dio lugar a la creaci\u00f3n de \u00e9sta poblaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Se constituy\u00f3 como entidad dependiente de Puebla del R\u00ed\u00ado en 1956 y en 1994 alcanz\u00f3 su independencia.<\/p>\n<p>El nombre fue cambiado por votaci\u00f3n popular, pasando a denominarse como Isla Mayor desde el a\u00f1o 2000 (antiguamente se conoc\u00eda como Villafranco del Guadalquivir).<\/p>\n<p><span>La iglesia de Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Carmen, hogar de la patrona del municipio sevillano de Isla Mayor. Comenzada a construir por Alfonso XIII, qui\u00e9n coloc\u00f3 la primera piedra, tard\u00f3 en edificarse 16 a\u00f1os. Con una torre-campanario de 18 metros. Se ha convertido en el edificio m\u00e1s emblem\u00e1tico del pueblo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>La Feria de Isla Mayor se celebra a mediados de junio.
