Se asienta sobre una tierra soleada, cubierta de f\u00e9rtil vegetaci\u00f3n. Con 10 473 <em>habitantes<\/em><span>\u00a0(INE 2024).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Cuenta con un puerto deportivo fluvial con amplias posibilidades para el desarrollo de los deportes n\u00e1uticos en todo el Bajo Guadalquivir. De hecho, se puede llegar desde Sevilla en barco y conocer los paisajes que rodean al r\u00edo.<\/p>\n<p><span>Los asentamientos m\u00e1s antiguos datan del Paleol\u00ed\u00adtico Inferior. <\/span><span>No est\u00e1n muy claros sus or\u00ed\u00adgenes. Para algunos fue la antigua Vergentum o Lujii Genius, citada por Plinio. Para otros la ciudad turdetana de Gelduba. <\/span><span>Durante el periodo de Al-Andalus fue llamada Gel-bal.<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Ya en el siglo XX, el t\u00ed\u00adtulo de conde de Gelves pasa a la casa de Alba. En 1974 comenzaron a vender las tierras a los colonos.<\/span><br \/>\nSus monumentos a Joselito \u00abEl Gallo\u00bb, la Hacienda \u00abSan Ignacio de Torrequemada\u00bb y la Iglesia de Santa Mar\u00eda de Gracia.<\/p>\n<p>Su gastronom\u00eda cuenta con su potaje y el <em>Ajo Molinero<\/em><span>, una sopa a base de pan y ajo.
